Coaches for Volleyball Academy in Mecklenburg County are critical in delivering high-quality, fun, and developmentally appropriate volleyball experiences to youth athletes. As a Lead or Assistant Coach, you’ll run weekly training sessions using our proven curriculum, foster a positive learning environment, and help players of all levels grow their skills and confidence. A coach will collaborate closely with the Area Director and Volleyball Academy Management to drive program growth and maintain high-excellence training.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience:

  • Background in playing or coaching sports at the youth, high school, club, or collegiate level.

  • Experience working with children or teens in a teaching, coaching, or mentorship setting.

Skills:

  • Ability to run structured, engaging training sessions using the provided curriculum.

  • Strong communication skills with both athletes and families.

  • Ability to follow guidance from the Area Director and work as part of a coaching team.

Personal Attributes:

  • Passion for youth sports and athlete development.

  • Dependable, enthusiastic, and committed to showing up prepared.

  • Flexible schedule — most sessions are held during evenings and weekends.

  • Willingness to complete a background check and certification training provided by Volleyball Academy.

responsibilities

Session Planning and Delivery:

  • Lead or assist with weekly volleyball training sessions using the official Volleyball Academy curriculum.

  • Adapt instruction to meet the developmental level and needs of each athlete.

  • Create an engaging, high-energy environment that fosters learning, teamwork, and fun.


Athlete Development:

  • Provide positive feedback and technical corrections to help athletes improve individual and team skills.

  • Monitor and track athlete progress throughout the season.

  • Support the physical and emotional well-being of all players.


Team Collaboration:

  • Work under the direction of the Area Director to ensure consistency and quality across all sessions.

  • Communicate with other coaches to coordinate practice flow and share feedback.

  • Participate in regular team check-ins and coaching development opportunities.


Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure player safety at all times by following Volleyball Academy safety protocols.

  • Maintain control of the gym environment and uphold a positive, respectful atmosphere.

  • Complete required background checks and certification training prior to coaching.


Parent and Community Engagement:

  • Represent Volleyball Academy positively during all sessions and events.

  • Answer basic parent questions before or after sessions, referring more complex concerns to the Area Director.

  • Help build a welcoming and inclusive community for athletes and their families.

  • Passion for youth sports and athlete development.

  • Ability to work evenings to meet program needs.

  • The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong passion for the sport of volleyball and working with young athletes. This person also possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to build and foster a community. Additionally, this role requires flexibility of schedule, as many clinics take place during the evenings and/or on weekends.
